Weekly update, last week

25 Nov

Just got out of class from the last one with the canadian dude. Can’t remember his name, though he is definately the best professor i’ve had the priviledge of listening to during my time at this school. Very inspiring, confusing and especially fun lectures.

Wednesday we focused on something called “tetrads”. Pretty interesting stuff, although hard at first. It’s basically about breaking down a “ground” into four different aspects, and through this technique, discovering new ways of looking at things and find common denominations between things that at first seem different. I think i got the hang of it at the end. Maybe not as good as the professor has (for obvious reasons) but it’s a start. I hope we’ll dig deeper into this later in the education.

This last lecture, was a bit heavier. We spoke about Marx and other old intelligent men. Nothing that really interests me, but i’m lucky we had that professor otherwise i’d be bored out of my mind. He basically told us we’ll forget everything we learn during our time at school which was a very.. interesting approach to it. Maybe he’s right. I can’t recall much from highschool, but i suspect it’s there somewhere in the back of my head pointing me in the right direction. So i guess that’s what he meant in some sense.

Pretty bummed out this part of the education is almost over. It’s been the best part and i’d be very disappointed if these kinds of classes aren’t represented in other parts of the three years i’m supposedly gonna study here.

That’s all for now.

Weekly update

24 Nov

I wasn’t able to attend many of the classes last week due to illness. But i managed to go to the one on wednesday. Must say it’s pretty hard to understand how it all fits in. But i’m working at it! Can’t say too much about the class, cuz i really couldn’t grasp anything of value.

Bank presentation

7 Nov

Today we were supposed to do a presentation in class. The task was to create a bank concept and to present goals, target group, have to reach your target group and so on.

Our bank was called “Bonk” and it was sort of this pay service where you combine a student card, buss card, ATM card and so on. So all you have to do is “Bonk” your card into a device and it’ll automatically pay for whatever you bought. All your purchases and transactions will go into an app or software and you can also chat directly with the bank via the application.

Pretty fun assignment. I’m liking this course so far

Triumph Of The Nerds

3 Nov

I just watched ”Triumph Of The Nerds” and i must say i really liked it. It (obviously) had a very retro feel to it and although it was a perfectly respectable way for a host to act, with today’s measures it all comes across as pretty comical. Also the people in the documentary comes across as very stereotypical. Nerds, capitalistic businessmen, goofy hosts etc.

I am a big Apple fan so I’ve watched a lot of clips of Steve Jobs before. But it’s nice to see what the right hands of big names in the computer industry has to say. Everyone knows it was Neil Armstrong who was the first man on the moon but not as many people know about Buzz Aldrin, who set foot only a few moment after.

I was specifically intrigued by the “war” between Bill Gates and the “Big Blue” – IBM. It was refreshing to see the little man finally overcoming the giants. Seems like this was very much the case in the early days of this business (hence the “1984” apple commercial”) Where Apple presented themselves as the small force who destroys the big empire (the computer monopoly in this case).

What i’ve learned from this movie is that with a little luck you can turn your hobby (or obsession maybe) into a big franchise, and also that you should always patent your ideas before someone steals them and makes a fortune out of it. And also that real nerds.. they are REAL nerds.
